1993 number one songs in the UK. How many were there and which artists and bands were they recorded by? If you want to know, stick with me as I delve into the archives to discover all the 1993 hit songs that made to the top of the singles chart during the 4th year of the 1990s.
There were 16 1993 number ones here in the UK, and the first one of the year spent 6 weeks dominating the chart – and that’s in addition to 4 weeks during December 1992. After that, it was a big year for a British boy band, and for the American artist who spent 7 weeks at number one.
By this time 1993 dance hits in the UK were big news, and several number ones of the year were from this genre. I remember a few of these from my first parent-free overseas holiday (to Benitses, Corfu), when I was 19 and had just completed my first year at university.
If you have a burning desire to know what was top of the UK charts in December 1993 or any preceding month, stay right here to find out. This is the latest in a series of number one songs by year, beginning with 1980.
Here are all the 1993 top songs – at least according to singles sales.

What do you think of the 1993 number one songs in the UK?
Well, I hasn’t come across that before – a re-entry. By Mr Blobby, of all ‘people’. The pink spotted monstrosity was knocked off the top of the charts by Take That, only to regain the position a week later. Yep, that was the 1993 Xmas number 1. The fact that 1993 was year of the monkey seems very apt…
My pick of these 1993 songs would be by Meat Loaf, Queen, George Michael or, erm, Take That. Because Relight My Fire brings back happy memories of nights out in my home town, reunited with my school mates once more during the holidays. We knew how to party in the 90s 😉
