There were 18 1995 number one songs in the UK. So what did the mid-90s have in store for the singles charts? If you want to know, stay with me while I count down all the 1995 music hits that made it to the top spot.

Half of one act comes from the same neck of the woods as me, though I doubt by now that you’d think of the person concerned as a musician. A popular 90s boy band continued to have huge success this year, scoring a couple of the most popular songs in 1995 in spring and summer.

The Christmas number one of 1995 dominated the pop charts for the whole of December, while earlier in the year two of the decade’s leading Britpop bands sold more singles than anyone else in the UK for a few weeks.

It was a big year for several Americans, one Canadian and a couple of Swedes as well as British acts, giving the 1995 top songs list a more international feel than during some years. Italy even got in on the act at one point, though their reign only lasted for a week.

Here are all 18 of the 1995 UK number ones.

What do you think of the 1995 number one songs in the UK?

Some of the 1995 number ones here in the UK formed part of a bloody battleground between Blur and Oasis, when the two went head to head for the number 1 song in August 1995 in the UK. Country House beat Roll With It – but overall Oasis sold more albums during the 90s.

Otherwise it was another big year for Take That, Michael Jackson, Robson and Jerome and the Outhere Brothers, all of whom had two 1995 hits in the UK that got to numero uno.

My pick for single of the year would be any of those by Michael Jackson, Blur or Oasis, as it’s all stuff I still play now.
