1994 Number One Songs UK
There are a few surprises to be found among the 1994 number one songs in the UK. For a start, one topped the charts for a whopping 15 weeks – that’s well over a quarter of the year! Under a decade later, it was then used in an ever-popular festive film.
In total there were 16 1994 UK number ones making it to the top of the charts as we reached the middle of the 1990s. The first of the year – and the 1993 Christmas number one – was utterly dire, but things could only get better from then on…
1994 top songs included a football ditty, a track from one of the biggest singing divas ever and one that spawned a whole new set of dance floor moves. A certain English boy band from the 90s continued their run of chart success, but it was Scotland who really took the cake and the cherry on top.
So if you want to know what was the Christmas number one in 1994 – and if it was better than the top festive hit of 1993 (surely anything would be?) then stay right here to find out. Discover all the 1994 one hit wonders – plus tracks from newcomers and established artists – below.

What do you think of the 1994 number one songs in the UK?
Well, what do you make of the Christmas number 1 of 1994 – as well as the rest of that year? My top track from these 1994 songs would be Prince – a classic that still gets a fair share of airtime. Now we’ve hit the mid-90s, the landscape looks very different from that of the mid-80s, wouldn’t you say pop pickers?
The 1994 movie song that made it big during the noughties was the biggest surprise to me. I remember it being a hit, but not at number one for that long! I do love to watch Love Actually at Christmas though, not least to see the lovely Andrew Lincoln holding up his placards.
