About 80s & 90s music.
Hello, and a very warm welcome to 80s and 90s music! I had no intention of writing about music when I started my first website, but here we are. It all began with an article called Missing George Michael: Can you mourn someone you’ve never met?
My love of writing and love of music soon came together in harmony. I rediscovered my love of music from my teens and twenties, as I started to think about what my favourite artists and bands of the 80s and 90s had created.
I’ve been described as having eclectic taste in music – and that is pretty much the truth. Some tunes from the 60s, 70s, and 21st century do appear here and there, but my real love is for 80s and 90s songs.
Everyone from my parents to my middle school teacher and high school crush has influenced my taste in music. My father saw Jimi Hendrix live in Newcastle during the 1960s, while The Beatles sang my mother out of this world over a decade ago.
In the 80s I fell for George Michael, Matt Goss and Michael Hutchence in quick succession. The latter remains my favourite musician of all time. As well as my number one crush. Mmm, indeed.
As the 90s began and ‘Choose Life’ gained a whole new reference point, I moved to Manchester. At night I worked in one of the seminal nightclubs of the era as friends danced at the Hacienda or worked as DJs. By day, we frequented Piccadilly Records and Affleck’s Palace.
Now, Mister and I shun downloads in favour of a sizeable CD collection. In a few years, Missy might even have her say. Although I do like to instruct Alexa to play that tune that keeps running through my head. As well as watching INXS videos on YouTube.
If, like me, you think the music of the 80s and 90s was the business, welcome. How lucky I am to have you here. How fortunate we are to have this music in our lives.
